The structural beauty of this Ju-Nel home was irresistible to homeowners Miles and Sarah Durham. The open riser stairs, the sliding glass panels that overlook the patios, and the signature stamp of Ju-Nel drew the couple in. The Durhams purchased the home from a friend and began the process of modernizing. They gutted the home down to the frame. Throughout the renovation, they strived to update the home with their vision while preserving the building’s integrity.

That commitment to honoring the signature Ju-Nel style is evident throughout the house. Certain interior walls were removed to open the home up and create a seamless flow. Original brick pavers from the interior floors were salvaged and used to surround the fireplace. For the second-story addition, the owners carefully chose finishes that fell in line with the original design. The exterior walls of the addition match the batt and board rough cedar on the original. Muted paint colors and roofing shingles were carefully chosen so as not to distract from the original Ju-Nel intent. Fans of Lyle Rowley and Jack Wilson, the architectural team behind Ju-Nel, will appreciate the owners’ carefully honed attention to Ju-Nel spirit in this modernized home.
